Summary
Ras Kids v1 stores your parent PIN as a cryptographic hash on your device only. Ras Innovate cannot look up, reset, or override your PIN from our servers. If you forget your PIN, use the in-app recovery flow described below. This page is for parents and legal guardians only — not for children using the device.
1. Before You Start
PIN recovery in v1 requires:
- Physical access to the device where Ras Kids is installed
- The same parent phone number you entered during initial setup (entered manually — not read from your SIM)
- The Forgot PIN? option on the parent PIN screen (parent-gated; not shown on child-facing screens)
There is no SMS verification, email reset link, or remote unlock in v1.
2. Recover Your PIN in the App
- From the kid home screen, open parent access and reach the parent PIN entry screen (or return to the PIN screen from parent settings).
- Tap Forgot PIN?
- When prompted, enter your reset key (see Section 3).
- Tap Next, then Enter New PIN — choose a new 4-digit PIN.
- Confirm New PIN — re-enter the same PIN.
- Tap Reset PIN. You should see PIN reset successfully.
You can now sign in to parent settings with your new PIN.
3. How Your Reset Key Is Calculated
Your reset key is derived from the mobile number stored in your local parent profile at setup.
Formula:
- Take the digits of your registered phone number only (ignore spaces, dashes, or +).
- If the number starts with country code 251, remove 251 and use the remaining digits.
- Use the last 9 digits of that mobile number.
- Append 001 to those nine digits.
Example
| You entered at setup | Digits used | Reset key |
|---|---|---|
| 911234567 | 911234567 | 911234567001 |
| 0912345678 | 912345678 (leading 0 dropped when normalised) | 912345678001 |
| +251 91 234 5678 | 912345678 (country code removed) | 912345678001 |
The reset key is typically 12 characters (9 digits + 001).
Important: The key must match the number exactly as stored on the device during onboarding. If recovery fails, try the format you originally typed on the welcome screen.
4. Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to try |
|---|---|
| Invalid reset key | Re-check the phone number shown in Parent Settings → Profile. Use the nine mobile digits you entered at setup, then append 001. |
| Forgot which number you used | Open Profile while signed in. If you cannot sign in, see Section 5. |
| Child can see this page | Do not share your reset key. Change your PIN after recovery. Consider device screen lock. |
| Recovery still fails | Email [email protected] with device model, app version, and a description of the issue. We can guide you through deletion and re-setup. |
5. If You Cannot Recover Access
If you cannot complete in-app recovery, the only way to regain control is to delete all local data and set up Ras Kids again. This permanently removes profiles, whitelist rules, schedules, and the PIN hash.
Option A — In-app (if you still know your PIN)
- Parent Settings → Profile → DEVICE & PRIVACY
- Delete all local data
- Enter parent PIN, type DELETE, tap Delete everything
Option B — Uninstall
Follow the Data Deletion Guide to uninstall the app, then reinstall and complete onboarding again.
We cannot recover whitelist rules or profiles after deletion.
6. Security Notes
- Your parent PIN is stored as a hash — we never store or transmit the plain PIN.
- Reset instructions are published here for parents and guardians, not in child-facing app screens.
- Do not share your reset key or PIN with children.
- Ras Innovate cannot reset your PIN remotely in v1.
