Summary
These Terms govern your use of the Ras Kids app. The app is a local-only parental control tool for parents and guardians. By installing Ras Kids you agree to these Terms. Key points: the app works offline, all data stays on your device in v1, no cloud features exist yet, and you must use the app lawfully and transparently.
1. Who May Use Ras Kids
Ras Kids is designed for parents and legal guardians (“you”) who configure the app on a device used by their child. To accept these Terms and set up parental controls, you must be at or above the age of majority in your jurisdiction (18 years or older in Ethiopia).
By installing or using Ras Kids you confirm that:
- You are a parent, legal guardian, or authorized adult caregiver
- You have lawful authority over the device on which you are installing the app
- You will use the app in compliance with applicable Ethiopian law and the laws of your country of residence
- You will not allow children to access the parent dashboard or PIN settings
2. What Ras Kids Provides (Version 1.0)
Ras Kids v1 is a local-only parental control launcher for Android devices. Features available in this version include:
- App whitelist and blocking (children can only open approved apps)
- Session time limits and bedtime scheduling
- Local parent and child profiles protected by a parent PIN
- On-device screen-time and app usage reports visible to parents
- Restricted home screen launcher for the child’s device
Version 1.0 does NOT include cloud sync, remote administration, paid subscriptions, web parent portal, or multi-device management. Do not rely on features that are not present in the current version of the app.
3. License
Ras Innovate grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Ras Kids on devices you own or lawfully control, subject to these Terms and the Google Play terms applicable to your download.
You may NOT:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the app, except where expressly permitted by applicable law
- Use the app to monitor, harass, stalk, or surveil any individual without lawful authority and their knowledge where required by law
- Circumvent the app’s parental controls in a way that causes harm to minors
- Redistribute, resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the app or its content
- Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices in the app
4. Parental Control — Lawful and Transparent Use
Ras Kids is designed as a visible, transparent parental control tool. It is not a covert surveillance application. By using the app you agree to:
- Use the app only for lawful parental supervision of minors in your care
- Inform other household members that parental controls are active on a shared or child-assigned device, where required by applicable law or reasonable fairness
- Use Accessibility Service, Usage Access, and Overlay permissions only through the app’s disclosed parental control features — not for any undisclosed monitoring purpose
- Not use Ras Kids to monitor adults without their knowledge and consent
- Comply with all applicable privacy laws, including Ethiopia’s Personal Data Protection Proclamation and any other laws in your jurisdiction
We reserve the right to update the app or suspend distribution if we become aware of systematic misuse of the app contrary to these principles.
Important: No parental control app is a substitute for active parental supervision, especially for young children. Ras Kids enforces rules technically but does not replace your judgment as a parent.
5. Android Permissions
Ras Kids requires the following Android permissions to operate. By enabling each permission you confirm you understand its declared purpose as described in our Privacy Policy (https://kids.rasinnovate.com/am/privacy):
- Accessibility Service — to detect and block non-whitelisted foreground apps
- Usage Access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) — to display on-device screen-time reports to parents
- Display Over Other Apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — to show enforcement and lock screens
- Query Installed Packages — to build the app whitelist
- Default HOME Launcher — to provide the restricted child home screen
Some features will not function without the required permissions. You may revoke permissions at any time through Android system settings; doing so will disable the corresponding features.
6. Local Data and PIN Security
All parent profiles, child profiles, whitelist rules, PIN hash, and usage data are stored locally on your device. We do not operate a cloud backup in v1.
You are solely responsible for:
- Keeping your parent PIN confidential and not sharing it with children
- Backing up any settings or profile information you consider important
- Recovering access to the app if the parent PIN is forgotten, using the PIN recovery instructions at https://kids.rasinnovate.com/am/parent-support/pin-recovery/
If you perform a factory reset or uninstall the app, all locally stored Ras Kids data will be permanently deleted. We cannot recover it.
7. Future Features and Subscriptions
Future paid features, if any, will be disclosed in updated Terms and our Privacy Policy before launch. Nothing in these Terms creates an obligation on us to release any particular future feature.
8. Third-Party Services
Crash diagnostics may be processed by Google Firebase Crashlytics as described in our Privacy Policy. Your use of Google Play to download and update Ras Kids is subject to Google's own terms and policies.
Optional web content or mini-apps that a parent has allowed within Ras Kids may be subject to the third-party terms of those services. We are not responsible for the content, availability, or privacy practices of third-party websites or services.
9. Intellectual Property
All source code, designs, graphics, logos, and content in Ras Kids are owned by or licensed to Ras Innovate and are protected by Ethiopian and international copyright and trademark law. The “Ras Kids” name and logo are proprietary to Ras Innovate.
You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from any part of the app without our prior written permission, except as permitted by applicable law.
If you send us feedback, suggestions, or feature requests about the app, you agree that we may use that feedback for any purpose without compensation or attribution to you.
10. Disclaimers
RAS KIDS IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, RAS INNOVATE DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING:
- Implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement
- Any guarantee of uninterrupted app blocking or compatibility with every Android device, OEM skin, or future Android OS version
- Any guarantee that parental controls will prevent all unauthorized access — no technical solution is foolproof
- Any warranty regarding the accuracy or completeness of on-device usage statistics
Active parental supervision remains your responsibility. Ras Kids is a tool to assist you, not a replacement for it.
11. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY ETHIOPIAN LAW AND THE LAWS OF YOUR JURISDICTION, RAS INNOVATE AND ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AFFILIATES SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:
- Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Loss of data, profits, goodwill, or business opportunities
- Damages arising from your inability to access or use the app, including during updates or maintenance
- Any harm resulting from your use of the parental control features in a manner inconsistent with these Terms
Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to Ras Kids shall not exceed the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months preceding the claim, or zero if the app was free at the time.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability for consequential damages. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the minimum extent permitted by law.
12. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Ras Innovate and its officers, employees, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
- Your use of Ras Kids in violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any applicable law or third-party rights
- Any misuse of parental control features, including unauthorized monitoring of adults
- Any false or misleading information you provide in connection with the app
13. Updates and Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms when the app, our services, or applicable law changes. The effective date at the top of this document will be revised. We will communicate material changes through the Google Play Store update notes or an in-app notice where appropriate.
Your continued use of Ras Kids after updated Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not accept the changes, you must stop using the app and uninstall it.
14. Termination
You may stop using Ras Kids at any time by uninstalling the app. To delete all locally stored data before uninstalling, go to Parent Settings > Profile > Device & Privacy > Delete All Local Data.
We may discontinue, modify, or restrict access to Ras Kids at any time in accordance with Google Play policies. If we discontinue the app, your locally stored data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.
15. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
15.1 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence provide greater protections — in which case those protections apply to you.
15.2 Informal Resolution
Before initiating any formal legal proceeding, you agree to first contact us at [email protected] and attempt to resolve the dispute informally. We will make reasonable efforts to resolve any complaint within 30 days of receiving written notice.
15.3 Formal Dispute Resolution
If informal resolution fails after 30 days, either party may bring the dispute before the competent courts of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Both parties irrevocably submit to the personal jurisdiction of those courts for the resolution of any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of Ras Kids.
For users outside Ethiopia where local mandatory law requires a different forum, disputes may also be resolved through the applicable consumer dispute resolution mechanism in your country of residence.
15.4 No Class Actions
To the extent permitted by law, you agree that any dispute will be resolved individually and not as part of a class action, collective action, or representative proceeding.
16. Miscellaneous
- Entire Agreement
- These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Ras Innovate regarding Ras Kids and supersede any prior agreements.
- Severability
- If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary or severed, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force.
- No Waiver
- Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of our right to enforce it in the future.

- You may not assign your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights to a successor entity in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- Force Majeure
- We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including power outages, internet disruptions, acts of God, or government actions.
- Language
